Celebrating women composers. Female composers make up just 2% of studio releases. Going back to the Hildegard Von Bingen, women composers have had a back seat to male composers. Times they are a changing. This concerts celebrated the work of film and TV composers.
In May, I had the supreme pleasure and honor to sing on the score of “Suicide Squad.” This is my first time singing on a film score. It was amazing and a dream come true.
It was a full day session at Warner Brothers Eastwood Scoring Stage on the Warner Brothers lot. The composer of the film is Steven Price who also scored the Sandra Bullock movie, Gravity. There were about 30 other singers on the call (SATB). I was standing […]
It’s almost the end of the year! I hope your 2015 has been a year of joy, laughter, love, and health. This year has gone so fast, but I’ve been incredibly blessed. Here are some highlights.
Children’s Book Published:
For three years, my friend, Kristyn Dors, and I worked on a children’s book called “I Love My Amazing Body.” Our mission was to create a book about loving and appreciating the body. We did it completely independent of a publisher or agent, […]
It has been a very exciting past few weeks. Over the last year, I’ve been working on being more active in session singing. Last week, I was blessed to be part of the back up choir for the Fox White Hot Holidays Special with Patti Labelle, John Legend, Wil.i.am, and Mary J Blige. It was hosted by the cast of the television series Empire including Terrance Howard and Taraji Henson.
We filmed over two days in Pasadena with the cast and […]
It’s happened. My book, I Love My Amazing Body, is done and printed and coming out in a month!
I Love My Amazing Body is a children’s book encouraging confidence and body appreciation.
The book is about a spunky little girl named Jackie. Jackie takes the reader through each body part describing all the things she loves to do with her amazing body. With her fingers she loves to play piano. With her hips she loves to hula hoop. With her arms […]
As many of you know, there was a time a few years ago that I was releasing a lot of cover songs. Most of them were acoustic versions with piano and vocal. I would record them myself and a friend would release them. For me there were two reasons to do this, one was for increased exposure and the other was consistent releases without the pressure of going into a studio to do a fully produced album.
One of my cover […]
This is for all the musicians out there who are trying to figure out who is the best distributor for their music. I looked into distrokid before I signed up, but didn’t find any reviews.
Having used distrokid for almost a year, here are the good and the bad of what I’ve experienced.
Inexpensive ($20, $35, or $80 per year depending on how many artists you have). This is great if you release often.
Easy to upload (they have a one page […]
A Vietnamese newspaper reporter recently interviewed me about my music and life. I had no idea I had many fans in Vietnam. So I am thrilled to be asked and honored to be in one of their main newspapers, Tuoi Tre. Apparently the Tuoi Tre is seen as a “reformist” newspaper based in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. The reporter, Yen Mai was incredibly wonderful and gave me very thoughtful questions.
Here’s the link to the Vietnamese article:
Here are my answers in […]
As of the beginning of this year, I hadn’t taken a vacation that wasn’t revolved around songwriting, touring, or music in some way in 10 years. What?? You say. Crazy. I could not justify it. I thought if I was going to travel, it had to be music related. I’m a musician. I just can’t go on vacation just for fun. What a crock. 🙂 I have gotten over it this year. Life is too short not to spend part […]
